Perth Airport (IATA: PER, ICAO: YPPH) is a domestic and international airport serving Perth, the capital and largest city of Western Australia. Even before civil aviation operations could commence at this site, the onset of World War II saw the facility being redesigned for military purposes as a temporary base for the Royal Australian Air Force and United States Navy. Despite military use of the airfield, civil services operated by Qantas Empire Airways and Australian National Airways (ANA) commenced from the location in 1944. Today, Perth Airport has four main terminals and one minor terminal, and two runways – the main 03/21 runway, 3,444 m × 45 m and 06/24, 2,163 m × 45 m. It is the fourth busiest airport in Australia measured by passenger movements, The first direct service from Oceania to Europe was started in 2018, with Qantas operating daily flights to London Heathrow and back using a Boeing 787-9 from Perth.
