The Space Coast is a region in the U.S. state of Florida around the Kennedy Space Center (KSC) and Cape Canaveral Air Force Station (CCAFS). ----------////------------- • The John F. Kennedy Space Center (KSC, originally known as the NASA Launch Operations Center) is one of ten National Aeronautics and Space Administration field centers. Since December 1968, Kennedy Space Center has been NASA's primary launch center of human spaceflight. Launch operations for the Apollo, Skylab and Space Shuttle programs were carried out from Launch Complex 39 and managed by KSC. --------- /// ------------- • Cape Canaveral Air Force Station (CCAFS) (known as Cape Kennedy Air Force Station from 1963 to 1973) is an installation of the United States Air Force Space Command's 45th Space Wing. The CCAFS area had been used by the US government to test missiles since 1949, and a number of American space exploration pioneers were launched from CCAFS, including all Project Mercury and Project Gemini flights took off from CCAFS but managed by KSC. It was also the launch site for unmanned military and civilian rockets of project Redstone, Jupiter, Pershing, Polaris, Thor, Atlas, Titan and Minuteman programs. With increased use of a leased launch pad by private company SpaceX are planning for 21 launches.
